Trên bàn phím máy tính (computer), hay trên bàn phím máy tính (calculator) có phím shift. Thường thì chức năng này nó nằm chìm. Ví dụ muốn kích hoạt chức năng chìm nào đó, người dùng sẽ nhấn nút shift, sau đó sẽ nhấn nút mà mình muốn sử dụng chức năng chìm của nút đó.

Trên ôtô cũng vậy, ngoài các chức năng lock (nổi) như: lock cửa, mã khóa động cơ (immobiliser, smart key system) thì còn có hệ thống lock chìm (shift lock), hệ thống này sẽ khóa một số thiết bị nếu nó nhận thấy không an toàn cho người dùng. How a Shifter Works

Here’s how the automatic transmission shifter on your center console works to shift gears.

The gear shifter on your car is responsible for providing the driver an input method to changing the direction of the transmission in an automatic car. It is also a safety device preventing the shifter from being bumped into gear, ruining the transmission.

Two mechanisms are at play, to protect those around the vehicle and the transmission itself. The park – brake lockout secures the shifter in the P position until the key is in the ignition and the brake is depressed. The shift control computer, located underneath the shifter, will determine if these conditions are met and activate a solenoid to move a tab to allow the shifter to move.

The second mechanism at play is a detent rod that glides along a toothed profile. The rod must be pushed down (the button on the shifter depressed) in order for it to move into gear.

Manual transmissions do not have a park lockout or a toothed profile preventing certain gears from being selected, and hence must be used with caution.

This shifter was taken out of a 2001 Toyota Corolla with a 4 speed automatic transmission.

Toyota Stuck in Park/Will Not Shift Into Any Gear – P0504 and P0571. In this video I show how I diagnose and fix a Toyota Sienna that is stuck in park. The gear selector on this van would intermittently stay in park and not shift into any gear. This vehicle couldn’t be driven when this was happening and had the following Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs): P0504 Brake Switch A/B Correlation and P0571 Brake Switch A Circuit. A bad Brake Light Switch (Stop Lamp Switch Assembly) is a common reason this can happen. The exact vehicle in this video is a 2006 Toyota Sienna CE.

Shifter Stuck In Park – It Was A SIMPLE Fuse

Shifter Stuck In Park. There may be multiple reason for your shifting not being able to move out of park. I replaced my brake light switch with a switch with adaptive cruise control and without adaptive cruise control. Neither worked or got my shifter out of park. I then went to the next easiest thing.

I looked at a fuse diagram and found that my cruise control, automatic transmission shifter, and brake lights all were connected to one fuse. I replaced the broken fuse and all these problems were fixed.

Here are some reasons for your shifter getting stuck in park:

1. Emergency Brake (Parking Brake) Not Set

2. Knob is stuck on brake light switch or gear shift sensor or stop light switch

3. Fuse

4. Faulty Shift Interlock Solenoid

5. On an incline and the parking brake is not being released (push car forward, release parking brake, shift the car, fix parking brake issue before you park on an incline again)

6. Vehicle Ignition Switch fail
